Summertime!

Summer 2013 started with me spending a few days moving 23 years worth of teaching materials from C-3 into C-8. Since then I have been in school several days trying to organize and prepare my new second grade classroom. As of now, I have the basic classroom room arrangement set up (I think!), started painting the coat closet doors, and have sorted the teaching materials into various areas around the room. But there is still SO much more to do. I have also attended a writing workshop which gave me lots of great ideas for the coming year and have read several professional books too. Oh and I have gone shopping for school supplies for my classroom (several times) and signed up for a SEI class that I need to take next school year. I may not have my students in the summer but I never stop being a teacher…even in summer! More photos to follow as the room progresses….

This shows some of the materials I have collected over 23 years of teaching!

This will hopefully become our classroom library. I have already bought a new rug and a cool new scanner to organize my HUGE book collection.

Luckily we have a long shelf on this wall to hold all these belongings while the custodians worked on the floors.

Welcome to my blog!

One of my goals for this summer was to learn how to blog and to set up a classroom blog for my new second grade classroom!  So after spending several exhausting days moving all the contents of my classroom in the heat down the hall to my new classroom…C-8, I started exploring the internet and researching blogs….from inside my air-conditioned house!

Thank you to Mrs. Cooke for allowing me to have her “corner room” and to the custodians, Bill and Tony for their patience with how long it took me to move 23 years worth of STUFF. Special thanks goes out to my wonderful husband who spent the first days of his summer vacation in the sweltering heat of Brookside helping me move.
