Thank you to all the parents who attended last night’s Orientation Night. It was nice to meet you all and share with you our curriculum and how our classroom operates. Each year I try to remember everything I want to say and I usually end up forgetting something. If you were in the first session, I forgot to talk to you about the Highlights forms that I put on each desk. If enough parents send back the signed form, we can get FREE materials for our classroom. It doesn’t matter if you check yes or no. I just need the form with your signature. (You don’t even need to fill out the rest!) Last year, our class had enough forms to get a huge container of foam dice to use in math that usually costs over $30.00. So my request is that you fill out the form and return it and help C-8 get some more FREE materials. If you need a replacement form, let me know and I’ll send one home.
If you were unable to attend last night’s Orientation, I am sending home a packet of papers with your child which includes the entire Powerpoint I showed. Please look at these materials and contact me if there is anything you need me to clarify for you.
Thank you to Madison and her family for placing an Scholastic Book Club online order! It’s the only order I have so far. So I am extending the Scholastic Book Club order to Tuesday, September 23rd to avoid any confusion with the Book Fair.
Thank you again for attending and if you have any questions that I did not answer last night, feel free to contact me with them!
Well, it has taken a lot of work this summer but I think C-8 is just about ready for the first day of school! ! Ms. Smith joked that she was going to have a ribbon cutting when the room was FINALLY finished!
This way to second grade!
Here is the view from the doorway! There is just one thing missing…..oh yeah, the students!
Welcoming the class of 2013-2014!
A few more hours and it’s time to begin a new school adventure teaching second grade! I can’t wait to welcome some old friends and make some new ones.
A preview of coming attractions!l
Well, it’s almost time to welcome those second graders and start learning together! Ready or not….tomorrow’s the day.
Summer 2013 started with me spending a few days moving 23 years worth of teaching materials from C-3 into C-8. Since then I have been in school several days trying to organize and prepare my new second grade classroom. As of now, I have the basic classroom room arrangement set up (I think!), started painting the coat closet doors, and have sorted the teaching materials into various areas around the room. But there is still SO much more to do. I have also attended a writing workshop which gave me lots of great ideas for the coming year and have read several professional books too. Oh and I have gone shopping for school supplies for my classroom (several times) and signed up for a SEI class that I need to take next school year. I may not have my students in the summer but I never stop being a teacher…even in summer! More photos to follow as the room progresses….
This shows some of the materials I have collected over 23 years of teaching!
This will hopefully become our classroom library. I have already bought a new rug and a cool new scanner to organize my HUGE book collection.
Luckily we have a long shelf on this wall to hold all the rest of my materials while the custodians worked on the floors.
One of my goals for this summer was to learn how to blog and to set up a classroom blog for my new second grade classroom! So after spending several exhausting days moving all the contents of my classroom in the heat down the hall to my new classroom…C-8, I started exploring the internet and researching blogs….from inside my air-conditioned house!
Thank you to Mrs. Cooke for allowing me to have her “corner room” and to the custodians, Bill and Tony for their patience with how long it took me to move 23 years worth of STUFF. Special thanks goes out to my wonderful husband who spent the first days of his summer vacation in the sweltering heat of Brookside helping me move.
