The Dracut High School football players came today to help our Brookside second graders “Tackle Tough Reading!” After a few brief remarks by the captain, the players spread out amongst the second graders and both read to them and listened to them read. The second graders loved spending time reading with these young men. I informed some second graders that their football player had once been a first grader in my classroom and that he had been a good reader. He then told them that he still reads all the time but now he reads books with 1000 pages. Needless to say they were impressed! One of my students told me that he had made a new best friend! Thank you to Coach Rivers and these young men for giving our second graders a memorable experience and showing them that Middie Pride extends beyond the football field!
